Family History Research |
| Family History Research compliments Genealogy Research. It attempts to fill in the blank spaces among the basic genealogical data. Its aim is to discover the living conditions, locations and periods in which your ancestors lived. Only then can history come alive. |
| The main archival sources used for Family History Research are: books of land ownership (land records), censuses, cadastres, land and duties registers, chronicle books, orphans books, town council books, tax records, marriage records, testaments, military records, corporation books, school reports, cadastral maps, designating maps, photographs, etc. |
| These Archival sources are stored in the Central State Archives, Regional State Archives and County State Archives all over the Czech and Slovak Republics. |

It is necessary to put to use library and museum materials, as well as various historical books and magazines. All materials uncovered help to tell the life story of an ancestor's family. Of course this work is very difficult and never ends, because it is always possible to find something new, even after a search appears to have been completed. The reason for this is that many sources have still not been processed, and historic knowledge continually progresses. |
| To complete a successful Family History Research, it is important to do Field Research. |
